A New Agenda For A New Michigan, a report from Michigan Future, Inc., provides an agenda for how to grow the Michigan Economy. As the report states in its introduction, "Michigan's economy is reeling from an unprecedented six consecutive years of declining employment - maybe most worrisome, the past three years during a national economic expansion. There is widespread concern that what comes next will not be a good as what has been lost."

Presenter: Joe Marr, President, Marr Professional Development Program: How to Sell Nothing - The art of selling services or non-essential products.
This practical session will reveal how to help prospects discover compelling reasons to buy something from you that they could live without. The session will also make the case that selling features and benefits is an arrogant and presumptuous way to sell; and that by taking the time to understand a prospect emotionally, salespeople find out quickly if a prospect will ever buy their product or service.
Joe Marr Has over 20 years experience organizing, training, coaching and managing high technology sales professionals worldwide, in medical device, analytical chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, high purity water and dental markets.
Joe runs the Sandler Sales Institute in Ann Arbor where he has helped more than 100 different businesses become more effective at selling, and writes the "Selling Smart" column for the Michigan Business Review. His mission is to teach his mostly professional and technical clients how to develop trusting and honest relationships with their prospective clients faster-and more sales just happen.

Unusual Entrepreneurs Share Wild Success Stories Sometimes it's luck and sometimes it's timing - and yet other times it's the sheer genius of a wacky idea. Come to the July meeting and hear from entrepreneurs who've discovered and capitalized upon unusual or obscure market needs to build a business. About the Speakers:
Janet Brown-Smith - CEO, Mookies Pet Toys Inc. Because her over-active dogs kept breaking her cat's toys, Janet decided to make Chase- It, a toy that her dogs could chase without breaking. This led to the formation of her company, Mookies Pet Toys. In 2005, her company found much success when she won a contest and debuted her product on QVC.
Douglas M. Chapman - Owner, HyperfitUSA Douglas is recognized as one of the top personal trainers in the United States. His HyperfitUSA programming includes Basic Training, Boot Camp, CrossFit and personal training for elite athletes and weekend warriors alike. He provides training that benefits participants equally in and out of the gym.
Brad Morgan - President, Morgan Composting Morgan Composting began in 1996 as a way to get rid of unwanted cow manure at Morgan Acres Dairy Farm. Since then, the original "Dairy Doo" compost has expanded into a full line of products including topsoil compost blends, poultry compost, container and planting bed mixes and several custom blends.
Moderator:
Susan Pollay - Executive Director, Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority Since 1996, Susan has served as the Goddess of Downtown, tackling projects from parking structure upgrades to traffic flow and city beautification. If anyone can corral our speakers, fire up our audience and get us to accomplish something, Susan can! Free to NEF members and journalists / $5 students / $20 non-members want to register? |
