Announcement of Employment Opportunity with St. Clair Shores Adult & Community Education

POSITION: Readiness/Assessment Instructor (Port Huron Location)     

DESCRIPTION: Assist J.E.T. customers to help them become gainfully employed.  Interact with clients in a group setting and on an individual basis, providing support for the individuals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:   
1.    Present overview and goals of Work First/J.E.T. Program to customers
2.    Present assessment tests to customers
3.    Conduct Success Plan conferences
4.    Assist customers with barrier resoluation on an individualized basis
5.    Assist selected individuals, in need of special attention, to become gainfully employed
6.    Review Talent Bank resume; assist customers to update if necessary
7.    Interact with participants to create professional resumes and cover and thank you letters
8.    Provide instruction on topics such as interviewing, portfolio preparation, telephone technique, retention, applications and networking.
9.    Interact with other staff members on a continual basis to seek information that will be resourceful for customers
10.    Complete all required documentation, electronic ISS’s, forms, letters, and file maintenance
11.    Deliver seminars/workshops regarding job retention, self esteem, workplace conflict and motivation
12.    Assess customers’ employment tools and refer customers to job club
13.    Assist with other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:   
1.    Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required unless applied from within, then five years experience in job readiness/job placement activities with welfare recipients and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree
2.    Previous J.E.T. knowledge and experience
3.    Possess the ability to work as a team member

TERMS:   
    40 hours per week (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
    $14.50 - $15.85 hourly
    90 Day Probationary Period for new employees
    Benefits available
    Paid holidays – Paid vacation and sick days available after probationary period is completed

POSITION:       
Training Enrollment/Community Service Placement Specialist (Clinton Township Location)     

DESCRIPTION:   
Assist J.E.T. customers to become gainfully employed.  Interact with clients in a group setting and on an individual basis, providing guidance and support for individuals to become gainfully employed and enrolled in training.  Present training opportunities to customers.  Function as a liaison for community service placements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:   
1.    Speak with customers in Assessment component about training opportunities
2.    Enroll customers in vocational occupational training or job skills upgrading
3.    Make arrangements for community service placements with local nonprofit agencies
4.    Schedule J.E.T. participants to attend community service assignments; check on their attendance and progression
5.    Provide information regarding educational opportunities as related to the career exploration assessment
6.    Work cooperatively with state and county agencies, departments, and staff within the Michigan Works! Service Centers
7.    Complete all required documentation, electronic ISS’s, forms, letters and file maintenance
8.    Assist customers with proper procedure to pursue job leads and training opportunities
9.    Deliver seminars/workshops regarding job retention, self esteem, time management, workplace conflict and motivation
10.    Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
